Certification:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Brings attention to the problem of light pollution and the need to preserve the night sky as a natural resource<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supports management agencies in achieving long-term conservation targets and connecting people to nature<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Serves as an economic driver by fostering increased tourism and local economic activity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>An International Dark Sky Place certification entitles the site or community to display the DarkSky International logo and\/or the Dark Sky Place seal in official publications and promotions, and enables the use of these logos by commercial groups, or other groups within the community, when identifying the place. DarkSky highlights ongoing Place efforts to protect night skies by maintaining a unique Place-based page on our website. Candidates are qualified based on management, location, nighttime public access, resources, and night sky quality. Categories include a conservation approach (<a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/what-we-do\/international-dark-sky-places\/all-places\/?_select_a_place_type=international-dark-sky-park\">International Dark Sky Parks<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/what-we-do\/international-dark-sky-places\/all-places\/?_select_a_place_type=international-dark-sky-sanctuary\">Sanctuaries<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/what-we-do\/international-dark-sky-places\/all-places\/?_select_a_place_type=international-dark-sky-reserve\">Reserves<\/a>) and built environments (<a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/what-we-do\/international-dark-sky-places\/all-places\/?_select_a_place_type=international-dark-sky-community\">Communities<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/what-we-do\/international-dark-sky-places\/all-places\/?_select_a_place_type=urban-night-sky-place\">Urban Night Sky Places<\/a>). Click <a href=\"http:\/\/darksky.org\/app\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IDSP-Designation-Flowchart-2018.pdf\">here<\/a> for a brief overview of determining whether a site is eligible for one of our certifications.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/accordion-item>\n\n\n\n<accordion-item class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-open-breakpoint=\"0\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-uuid=\"237503\"><h3 id=\"at-237503\" class=\"js-accordion-controller c-accordion__title\" role=\"button\">For Parks, Sanctuaries, and Reserves, what does it mean to be \u201clegally protected\u201d?<\/h3><div id=\"ac-237503\" class=\"c-accordion__content\" hidden><div class=\"c-accordion__content-wrapper\">\n<p>Following the definition of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iucn.org\/\">International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN)<\/a>, a protected area is \u201ca clearly defined geographical space, recognized, dedicated and managed, through legal or other effective means, to achieve the long-term conservation of nature with associated ecosystem services and cultural values.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Federal, state, provincial, and other public agencies manage public lands with the clear objective of conserving and protecting lands for use and enjoyment by the public. These protections are inherent in their management and governance.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, privately owned sites and those managed by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) must demonstrate how the land and night sky will be managed in perpetuity. These applicants will need to provide documentation of a legally binding agreement with a third party. In other words, the candidate will need to provide documentation of the legal mechanism(s) that are in place to ensure that the site\u2019s natural resources (i.e., land, air, water, sky) are protected from damage due human impacts into the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, to ensure protection if the land changes ownership, some private sites have<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservationeasement.us\/\"> conservation easements<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lawcom.gov.uk\/project\/conservation-covenants\/\">covenants<\/a> as a way to ensure that the property is managed to protect the night sky and its resources into the future.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two following certified nominations provide examples:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/places\/keweenaw-michigan-dark-sky-park\/\" data-type=\"darksky_place\" data-id=\"19033\">Keweenaw Dark Sky Park<\/a>\u2019s agreement with the Michigan State Historic Preservation Office.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/places\/aehai-kalahari-heritage-park-dark-sky-sanctuary\/\">Ae!Hai Kalahari Heritage Park\u2019s<\/a> outlined conservation guidelines associated with the various legal entities that administer the park.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/accordion-item>\n\n\n\n<accordion-item class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-open-breakpoint=\"0\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-uuid=\"237504\"><h3 id=\"at-237504\" class=\"js-accordion-controller c-accordion__title\" role=\"button\">How long does it take to complete an application to become certified?<\/h3><div id=\"ac-237504\" class=\"c-accordion__content\" hidden><div class=\"c-accordion__content-wrapper\">\n<p>On average, applications take one to three years to complete, depending upon the type of certification and the scale of the application. It is a complex but rewarding process!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/accordion-item>\n\n\n\n<accordion-item class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-open-breakpoint=\"0\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-uuid=\"237505\"><h3 id=\"at-237505\" class=\"js-accordion-controller c-accordion__title\" role=\"button\">How much does it cost to apply?<\/h3><div id=\"ac-237505\" class=\"c-accordion__content\" hidden><div class=\"c-accordion__content-wrapper\">\n<p>There is a one-time $250 U.S. fee to begin the application process. All prospective applicants should review our <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/what-we-do\/international-dark-sky-places\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"138\">International Dark Sky Places<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/what-we-do\/international-dark-sky-places\/apply\/\">Apply for Dark Sky Place certification<\/a> pages, and obtain permission from site management\/owner(s) before submitting an inquiry. Your inquiry form will need to contain all of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A clear idea of which certification you are seeking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Detailed map(s) showing the proposed site or community boundaries and other relevant information (such as identifying the management agency, restricted areas, and conservation easements for private properties) with a legend<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A description of dark-sky actions taken thus far, if applicable<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/accordion-item>\n\n\n\n<accordion-item class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-open-breakpoint=\"0\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-uuid=\"237508\"><h3 id=\"at-237508\" class=\"js-accordion-controller c-accordion__title\" role=\"button\">I have submitted the application fee, so what should I get started on first?<\/h3><div id=\"ac-237508\" class=\"c-accordion__content\" hidden><div class=\"c-accordion__content-wrapper\">\n<p>Once you submit your fee, you will work directly with Program Staff on developing the more time-consuming components of your application. This includes elements such as the night sky survey, lighting inventory, Lighting Management Plan or Policy, and outreach and education programs, among other things. For suggestions, review this <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.app.box.com\/s\/5uzxuz7zotl62fyknwq316yq4qlralbe\">PowerPoint<\/a> and this <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.app.box.com\/s\/a3sykwg059m7f29su2hwxpmro752jefw\">graphic<\/a> (Community-oriented) prepared by DarkSky International, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/app\/uploads\/bsk-pdf-manager\/2020\/08\/Dark-Skies-Issue-Guide-7-27-2020.pdf\">Dark Sky Planning<\/a> document from the Utah Community Development Office.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/accordion-item>\n\n\n\n<accordion-item class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-open-breakpoint=\"0\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-uuid=\"237509\"><h3 id=\"at-237509\" class=\"js-accordion-controller c-accordion__title\" role=\"button\">What is required to maintain certification in good standing?<\/h3><div id=\"ac-237509\" class=\"c-accordion__content\" hidden><div class=\"c-accordion__content-wrapper\">\n<p>Certified Places maintain <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/about\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"11\">DarkSky\u2019s mission and values<\/a> by committing to the following actions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Monitor and record night sky quality.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make progress in retrofitting existing lighting to be dark-sky friendly, and encourage privately owned lighting within your site&#8217;s boundaries to follow best practices.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Host outreach efforts that meet the minimum standards of your specific certification category and aim to reach new audiences over time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coordinate your plans to think outward and collaborate with other communities, protected areas, and dark sky advocacy groups to join the dark sky movement and do their part to celebrate and protect our night sky.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Save documentation of these efforts and provide them in your <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/resources\/guides-and-how-tos\/idsp-annual-reports\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"4344\">Place Annual Report<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The International Dark Sky Place certification is not awarded in perpetuity. Rather, it is subject to regular review by DarkSky International and possible revocation if the minimum program requirements are not maintained. An organized group outside the administering agency or organization can apply for certification with demonstrated approval from the owner or managing entity.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/accordion-item>\n\n\n\n<accordion-item class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-open-breakpoint=\"0\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-uuid=\"2375011\"><h3 id=\"at-2375011\" class=\"js-accordion-controller c-accordion__title\" role=\"button\">Who is a qualified DarkSky nominator?<\/h3><div id=\"ac-2375011\" class=\"c-accordion__content\" hidden><div class=\"c-accordion__content-wrapper\">\n<p>The preferred candidate will be an individual who represents DarkSky International as a certified Place Point of Contact, Delegate, Chapter Representative, or Member. Applicants are encouraged to search for nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/what-we-do\/international-dark-sky-places\/all-places\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"536\">certified Places<\/a> and recognized <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/who-we-are\/advocates\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"10352\">active Advocates<\/a> to establish a connection early in the process so that the nominator may write on the site\u2019s behalf. However, if there are no nearby potential nominators, a local individual or organization may apply to be a <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/ways-to-give\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"11411\">DarkSky member<\/a> and self-nominate. Members are considered in good standing if they donated to DarkSky International within the past twelve months.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/accordion-item>\n\n\n\n<accordion-item class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-open-breakpoint=\"0\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-uuid=\"2375012\"><h3 id=\"at-2375012\" class=\"js-accordion-controller c-accordion__title\" role=\"button\">Where do I send letters of nomination and support?<\/h3><div id=\"ac-2375012\" class=\"c-accordion__content\" hidden><div class=\"c-accordion__content-wrapper\">\n<p>Letters of nomination and support are provided directly to the applicant, who then supplies a single application package with all materials to <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/who-we-are\/staff\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"71\">DarkSky program staff<\/a>. If an applicant does not provide an update to DarkSky Program staff within a 12-month period, we will mark the application as \u201cDefunct,\u201d implying that there are no ongoing actions to support the development of the application and local dark sky efforts. If this occurs, the applicant will no longer have access to guidance from DarkSky staff or have the opportunity to submit their nomination for endorsement until they reinstate the application by submitting the application fee. The application will be upgraded to the most recent Guidelines version, even if the original application started work following an older version. Additionally, some aspects of the application will need to be redone, such as gathering night sky quality data and outreach efforts. The more data, the better, so we encourage applicants to include other methods such as satellite imagery, all-sky photometry, and visual observations such as Bortle ratings and star counts. The idea is to inform as many people living in the area as possible about the issue and appropriate actions.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide incentives or recognition of efforts that go above and beyond in demonstrating quality lighting. Seeing and feeling quality lighting will encourage others to follow that example.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div><\/div><\/accordion-item>\n\n\n\n<accordion-item class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-open-breakpoint=\"0\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-uuid=\"2375017\"><h3 id=\"at-2375017\" class=\"js-accordion-controller c-accordion__title\" role=\"button\">How much outreach do we need to document to become certified?<\/h3><div id=\"ac-2375017\" class=\"c-accordion__content\" hidden><div class=\"c-accordion__content-wrapper\">\n<p>Applicants must demonstrate an ongoing commitment to providing engaging and educational experiences for their visitors. The importance of dark skies, the nocturnal environment, the benefits of quality lighting, and a reference to DarkSky International and what it means to be an International Dark Sky Place must be part of interpretation programs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The minimum requirement for International Dark Sky Parks and Reserves is at least four times per year, and for Communities, at least two times per year; however, more events are preferable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the site does not typically offer programs, such as for places applying under the Sanctuary category, then extensive publications, flyers, press releases, media, social media, or other outreach are appropriate substitutes. All of these light fixtures must be included in the lighting inventory and must comply with the site\u2019s Lighting Management Plan or Policy.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/accordion-item>\n\n\n\n<accordion-item class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-open-breakpoint=\"0\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-uuid=\"2375019\"><h3 id=\"at-2375019\" class=\"js-accordion-controller c-accordion__title\" role=\"button\">How do I know if a light complies with DarkSky\u2019s standards?<\/h3><div id=\"ac-2375019\" class=\"c-accordion__content\" hidden><div class=\"c-accordion__content-wrapper\">\n<p>The first step will be to apply the <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/resources\/guides-and-how-tos\/lighting-principles\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"14092\">Five Principles for Responsible Outdoor Lighting<\/a> to each light, which you can determine by following this <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.box.com\/s\/kwyo4et82lgjw3wymu3hfamzgjamk8sm\">graphic.<\/a> You may also use this <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/app\/uploads\/bsk-pdf-manager\/2019\/06\/Dark-Sky-Assessment-Guide-Update-6-11-19.pdf\">Dark Sky Assessment Guide<\/a> by the Utah Community Development Office for your analysis. To find metrics about light levels and color, you can often find specifications stamped on the bulb directly or on the packaging. Many fixtures have serial numbers that can be used to search for information about the quality of light they emit. Specialized equipment such as illuminance meters and spectrometers may be used to measure existing light values but are not required. Additionally, any product listed in our <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/what-we-do\/darksky-approved\/products-companies\/\">DarkSky Approved database<\/a> that is mounted and used appropriately is assumed to comply with Place Guidelines.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/accordion-item>\n\n\n\n<accordion-item class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-open-breakpoint=\"0\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-uuid=\"2375020\"><h3 id=\"at-2375020\" class=\"js-accordion-controller c-accordion__title\" role=\"button\">What does \u201cCity-owned\u201d lighting cover?<\/h3><div id=\"ac-2375020\" class=\"c-accordion__content\" hidden><div class=\"c-accordion__content-wrapper\">\n<p>Dark Sky Communities need to demonstrate that publicly owned or leased lighting (i.e., lighting that may be owned by the local utility company but exists to benefit the community as a whole) is 100% compliant within five years. This lighting serves the Community&#8217;s more significant needs, including street lighting, municipal parks, and lighting on municipal government buildings. For examples of Community commitment to demonstrating quality lighting, refer to the following certified nominations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.box.com\/s\/fr3c22yin6dalfq8cfcilqzydgarj9ty\">Cottonwood, Arizona<\/a> (page 25 \u2014 streetlights and municipal-owned buildings, as well as documentation of approved lighting designs)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/app\/uploads\/2018\/01\/FountainHills-IDSC-Application.pdf\">Fountain Hills, Arizona<\/a> (page 26 \u2014 streetlights and municipal-owned buildings)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.app.box.com\/file\/370043657067?s=yilw8j4h9ci5t2cf41xizq4nsm3610e0\">Fulda, Germany<\/a> (page 31 \u2014 existing commitment and detailed plans to retrofit existing lights within the proposed timeframe)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.box.com\/s\/8g42h6nh5pegn69w5sum8fknuwplpvsr\">Niue<\/a> (page 35 \u2014 streetlights and navigational \u201cseatrack\u201d lighting)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.box.com\/s\/qrfd471ddcyjujflmy9i7z70juv3rfei\">Norwood, Colorado<\/a> (page 6 \u2014 proposal to work with higher\/federal level of government to replace existing streetlights within the Community\u2019s jurisdiction)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/accordion-item>\n\n\n\n<accordion-item class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-open-breakpoint=\"0\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-uuid=\"2375021\"><h3 id=\"at-2375021\" class=\"js-accordion-controller c-accordion__title\" role=\"button\">Will specific lighting (such as a manufacturing plant or other industry) in our Dark Sky Community prevent us from getting certified?<\/h3><div id=\"ac-2375021\" class=\"c-accordion__content\" hidden><div class=\"c-accordion__content-wrapper\">\n<p>No. All existing and newly installed publicly owned lighting must be compliant at the time of application or must be scheduled to become compliant within five years of receiving the certification. However, there are no compliance rate requirements for private lighting at this time. Instead, DarkSky International requires Communities to include a ten-year amortization period for all private and public fixtures to comply after the policy is officially adopted. As lights are gradually replaced with new, efficient fixtures, the local authority will be responsible for guiding private entities to follow dark-sky and community-friendly standards where appropriate. In both the application and annual reports, we expect ongoing efforts to work with private entities to improve lighting over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, Dark Sky Communities will not be certified \u2014 or will risk jeopardizing losing their certification if awarded \u2014 if they permit bad or inappropriate uses of lighting.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/accordion-item>\n\n\n\n<accordion-item class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-open-breakpoint=\"0\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-uuid=\"2375022\"><h3 id=\"at-2375022\" class=\"js-accordion-controller c-accordion__title\" role=\"button\">What does the lighting policy include?<\/h3><div id=\"ac-2375022\" class=\"c-accordion__content\" hidden><div class=\"c-accordion__content-wrapper\">\n<p>Lighting policies \u2013 ordinances, bylaws, lighting management plans, planning documents, codes, or other legal documentation \u2013 help keep communities and agencies accountable by identifying standards and expectations for acceptable outdoor lighting.<br><br>The purpose is to develop outdoor lighting standards that reduce glare, light trespass, and sky glow. The policy must incorporate a comprehensive structure that administers the identified tasks and locations of light within the Community while also including all of the minimum standards for permanent lighting installations defined by the <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/app\/uploads\/bsk-pdf-manager\/2021\/05\/IDSC-Final-May-2021.pdf\">International Dark Sky Community Guidelines<\/a>. Lighting required by law under the authority of any legal jurisdiction higher than that of the Community may be exempted from the requirements of DarkSky\u2019s Guidelines.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/accordion-item>\n\n\n\n<accordion-item class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-open-breakpoint=\"0\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-uuid=\"2375023\"><h3 id=\"at-2375023\" class=\"js-accordion-controller c-accordion__title\" role=\"button\">Is there a sample lighting policy that we can follow?<\/h3><div id=\"ac-2375023\" class=\"c-accordion__content\" hidden><div class=\"c-accordion__content-wrapper\">\n<p>The short answer is no, there is not. Each Dark Sky Community is unique in terms of population size, lighting zones, and uses of light. The policy should be flexible and not use a blanket statement to cover all lighting tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DarkSky International suggests incorporating our <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/resources\/guides-and-how-tos\/values-centered-outdoor-lighting\/\">Values-Centered Approach<\/a> to implement a balanced lighting program that effectively reduces light pollution. In addition, Community applicants and partners within a Reserve\u2019s periphery are encouraged to review <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/resources\/guides-and-how-tos\/model-lighting-ordinances\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"222\">DarkSky\u2019s Model Lighting Policy document<\/a>, which borrows language from adopted lighting policies, and policies from our certified <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/what-we-do\/international-dark-sky-places\/all-places\/?_select_a_place_type=international-dark-sky-community\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"242\">International Dark Sky Communities<\/a>.<br><br><em>Note: <\/em>Our Guidelines have changed in the past and probably will again, to accommodate advances in science and technology. Therefore, it is important to make sure that the ordinance you are following is under the most current version of the Guidelines. Communities that rely on planning documents may follow the guidance from the <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/news\/towards-a-dark-sky-standard\/\">Towards a Dark Sky Standard<\/a> document developed by the UK Dark Skies Partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Non-municipal management agencies may use our <a href=\"https:\/\/darksky.org\/app\/uploads\/bsk-pdf-manager\/Sample-LMP_62.pdf\">Sample Lighting Management Plan<\/a> template.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to meeting the minimum requirements stated in the Guidelines,  the applicant is encouraged to write the document to comply with local legislative frameworks and relevant standards.
